Why the location makes sense

The biggest advantage is the Pharr–Reynosa International Bridge. It is the #1 U.S. border crossing for produce, and the City of Pharr says it handles more than 65% of U.S. fresh-produce imports from Mexico. The port generates more than $47 billion in annual trade.

The truck volume is especially important for your business. Pharr says more than 120,000 commercial trucks cross northbound and southbound each month. In May FY2025–26 alone, there were 57,112 northbound trucks and 59,011 southbound trucks — about 116,000 commercial truck crossings in one month.

Produce alone is enormous. Pharr’s bridge director recently said roughly 215,000 truckloads of fresh produce crossed in the prior year, with roughly 15,000–20,000 produce trucks per month during peak season.

And it isn’t only Mexico

Your idea about serving produce from several countries is important. Product grown in countries such as Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, Peru, Chile, and Colombia can enter North American supply chains through different ports and routes and then require consolidation, refrigerated storage, and distribution. But AMO should not market Edinburg as though all seven countries’ produce physically crosses the Pharr bridge — Pharr’s core advantage is specifically Mexican produce.

Mexico by itself is already a huge market: in 2025 it exported about $45.7 billion of agricultural products, and approximately 89% of Mexico’s agricultural exports went to the United States.
